PopCult Gift Guide Day Six: Coolness From Collage

Yesterday in the Gift Guide, we suggested that you support local artists by frequenting the galleries that participate in ArtWalk. Today, we're going to focus at another outlet for local artists, Charleston's newest boutique of funky coolness, Collage, located at 805 Quarrier Street.

The dream and brainchild of artist Jamie Miller, Collage features a quirky assortment of cool, vintage clothing and jewelry, mixed with new artwork and creations by area artists like

On the left, you see fine Mountain State stemware created by Vasilia Scouras. You can find all sorts of nifty little treats and gift items at Collage and if you don't trust your own tastes, you can always pick up a gift certificate so that the special person on your list will have the joy of opening a really nifty envelope on Christmas Day.

Collage is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM to 6 PM. Call 304-541-0778 for more details and visit their website. Collage is Charleston's newest shopping destination for handmade art, jewelry, and vintage/altered clothing by local and national artisans.

Hot Show

This weekend's hottest show sees indy rock out of towners The Demon Beat and the Shaw Brothers invading the Boulevard Tavern with local stalwarts Tofujitsu and The Nanker Phelge. Details in the flier reproduced below.

ArtWalk In Photos

A special holiday ArtWalk took place last night in downtown Charleston. Your otherwise committed PopCulteer made a special early afternoon tour of a few of the ArtWalk locations and here is this month's rather skimpy ArtWalk photo essay.

Stray Dog Antiques

"Windows And Mirrors"

Good News Mountaineer Garage Gallery, West Virginia Patriots for Peace and other local groups are sponsoring “Windows and Mirrors”, an art exhibit initiated by American Friends Service Committee, and produced by artists around the US and other countries. We got there before it was open.

Taylor Books Ammex Gallery

Art Emporium

The Purple Moon and Modern By Design

The big new item at both The Purple Moon and Modern by Design is the arrival of some lovely new tables, hand-crafted from recovered virgin timber by Fayettevile artisans.

The Purple Moon also has their usual assortment of cool art and antiques.

That's it for this week in PopCult. Our gift guide continues on Monday. And don't forget Dr. Sketchy's at Lost Legion Games and Comics Sunday night.
